Red Avadavat is a small bird. It is also called Red Munia and Strawberry finch. The bird in the picture is the male. Its colour becomes red during breeding. The word Avadavat is derived from Amdabad or Ahmedabad from where these cute poor birds were exported to many countries where these were kept in homes as pets.
